How to know if you're a fashion disaster?

No one is a complete fashion disaster and any problems can be fixed, but do you have a sneaking suspicion that when it comes to fashion you may be making some mistakes? There are certain signs to look for that indicate that you have a touch of the fashion disaster about you.

1. Are you wearing clothing that has rips, tears missing buttons and broken zips?

If this is the case then mend any items which you can and then get rid of broken and worn out items as they will be cramping your style.

2. Are your clothes so tight that you have visible lumps and bumps where there shouldn't be any?

A common misconception amongst some people is that they will appear smaller if they wear smaller clothes. This doesn't actually work and, unfortunately, can have the opposite effect. Wearing clothes which fit properly will increase your fashion value considerably.

3. Are your clothes so loose that the spare material hangs around you in folds?

You may be doing this to hide your figure if you are not feeling confidant, or it may just feel comfortable to dress like this. Sadly, all this does though, is to make the wearer appear rather larger than they actually are.

Again, finding clothing which actually fits will give you a far better figure and make you appear more fashionable straight away.

4. Are you wearing clothing from twenty years ago?

It may be that you have favorite outfits which have fond memories attached to them. What you need to know is that by getting rid of the clothes you will not be getting rid of the memories. If your outfit has massive shoulder pads, is fluorescent or made of Lycra then ditch it, if you can bear to, and just keep the memories.

5. Are trying to be younger than you are?

This isn't necessarily wrong, but if you are dying your hair jet black and you are over fifty then this dark color will be too harsh for your paler skin-tone and will make you look washed out and tired.

Choosing a lighter color will brighten up your face, be more fashionable and really will make you look more youthful.

You may also be larger than you used to be and still trying to squeeze into mini skirts and tight shorts. Whilst there is nothing morally wrong with this it will not be giving you positive appeal.

6. Are you wearing a great deal of make up?

Unless you work in a make up department in a large store you are probably out of fashion. The fresh and natural look is now in. Barely there make up has made a comeback so troweling on rouge, heavy lipstick and tons of eyeshadow will make you stand out from the crowd in a bad way.

Instead opt for less make up in more natural shades of earth tones, plums and bronze.

7. Are you wearing comfortable clothing items in beige from head to toe?

If you are then you will be creating to opposite effect to the person with too much make up on. You will virtually be invisible. Its far more fashionable to add an accent color to liven up an outfit if you are wearing a pale color.

It can help to make a contrast by using a different colored belt, shoes and bag to your main garments.

8. Are you wearing your favorite old tee shirt that is stained, a pair of trousers that are held up with string and an old hat that has faded?

Then, quite apart from the fact that I think that it may be you who has just parked their tractor in-front of my gate, you are not wearing the most fashionable of apparel.

Old, comfortable favorites are a must for days when you are feeling ill and are snuggling up at home as the rain pours down, and are not going to see anyone else. But if you want to be fashionable then you could wear a snappy neck tie, a bright new hat, put a belt around your trousers and adopt a new tee shirt to love.

But then again, depends on the fashion cycle and the overall appearance I guess.
